The economy of the Province of Lanao del Norte grew by 3.8 percent in 2019 but contracted by 4.7 percent in 2020. Among the three major industries, Agriculture, forestry, and fishing (AFF) holds the largest three-year average share of 43.5 percent. This is followed by Services with an average share of 38.6 percent, and Industry with a 17.9 percent average share.
All three major industries grew in 2019. Industries with highest growth rates were: Professional and business services at 78.1 percent, Human health and social work activities at 13.8 percent, and Public administration and defense; compulsory social activities at 12.7 percent.
On the other hand, all three major industries recorded decline in 2020. Industry sector recorded the fastest decline in 2020 at 15.1 percent, while Services and AFF also declined by 4.6 percent and 0.4 percent respectively. Top industries with fastest decline were: Accommodation and food service activities at -37.3 percent, Construction at -23.0 percent, and Mining and quarrying at -21.5 percent. However, despite the slowdown in its overall economic performance, the following industries in Lanao del Norte recorded positive growths: Financial and insurance activities, with 13.7 percent; Manufacturing, with 6.9 percent; Public administration and defense; compulsory social activities, with
6.4 percent; and Information and communication, with 2.6 percent.
orthern Mindanao registered a 5.2 percent decline in its economic performance in 2020, a turnaround from the recorded economic growth of 5.6 percent in the previous year. The Province of Lanao del Norte contributed 2.03 percentage points to the decline of the regional economic growth. Moreover, the Province of Lanao del Norte ranked sixth among the provinces and HUCs of the region in terms of share to the regional economy.
