Increasing number of Marriages in Northern Mindanao

In 2018, Northern Mindanao recorded a total of 21,416 marriages. This number is 1.10% higher compared to the registered marriages in 2017 at 21,184 marriages. It can also be noted that the number of marriages in the region showed an increasing trend from 2016-2018 (Figure 1 and Table 1).

Highest occurrence of marriages recorded in Bukidnon

Among the provinces and highly urbanized cities in the region, Bukidnon recorded the highest number of marriages at 7,473 marriages or 34.9 percent, followed by Misamis Oriental at 3,876 marriages or 18.1 percent of the total marriages (Figure 2).

On the other hand, the least number of marriages was recorded in Camiguin with 348 marriages. This figure is lower by 13.4 percent than the 402 marriages recorded in 2017.

Most number of couples married in May

Most number of marriages in 2018 occurred in the month of May with 2,253 (10.5%) marriages followed by June with 2,200 marriages (10.3%). Likewise, the months of December, January, February, April, August, October, September, July and November also recorded high occurrences of marriages. On the other hand, the month of March had the least number of marriages (Figure 3 and Table 2).

Most men and women married between ages 25-29 years old

The reported median age for men is 29 years old while that for women is 26 years old.

Most men and women in Northern Mindanao married between 25-29 years old, which compromise 37.6 percent and 34.7 percent respectively of the total number of registered marriages in this age group (Figure 4 and Table 3).

It can be noted that most female married at younger age compared to male.

It was also observed that the number of teenage brides (1,714) was five times more than the number of grooms of the same age group.
