Palay and Corn Production in Northern Mindanao First Quarter of 2022

Palay Production

Northern Mindanao produced 188,241 metric tons of palay in the first quarter of 2022. This represents a drop of 3.7 percent from 195,507 metrics tons in the same quarter of 2021.
Palay production decreased by 2.9 percent and 3.8 percent in rainfed farms and irrigated farms, respectively.

In the first quarter of 2022, Bukidnon had the highest palay production among the provinces in the region, accounting for 71.2 percent of the region's total palay production. Palay production decreased in all provinces compared to the same quarter in 2021.

Area Harvested for Palay

The total area harvested for palay in the first quarter of 2022 was 43,444 hectares. This represents an increase of 1.9 percent over the 42,640 hectares recorded in the same quarter of 2021. In the first quarter of 2022, the area harvested for rainfed farms declined by 1.2 percent, while the area harvested for irrigated farms increased by 2.2 percent.

Corn Production

The total corn production for the first quarter of 2022 was recorded at 298,627 metric tons, a decrease of 5.7 percent from the same quarter in 2021. Yellow and white corn production decreased by 4.2 percent and 9.0 percent, respectively.

Among the provinces, Bukidnon contributed the most (77.4%) to the region’s total corn production. All the provinces in the region showed a decrease in corn production from its corresponding production volume in the same quarter of 2021.

Area Harvested for Corn

The total area harvested for corn in the first quarter of 2022 was 85,104 hectares, a 4.5 percent decrease from the total area harvested in the same quarter of 2021.

Area harvested for yellow corn was 51,532 hectares, lower by 4.6 percent than the area harvested in the same quarter of 2021. Meanwhile, the area harvested for white corn was 33,572 hectares which decreased by 4.5 percent compared to the first quarter of 2021.
