City of Iligan’s economy continues to grow by 6.1 percent in 2021

The economy of the City of Iligan posted a growth of 6.1 percent in 2021, an acceleration from the 3.2 percent growth in the previous year. In 2021, the Gross City Domestic Product (GCDP) of the city is valued at PhP 71.6 billion from the 2020 level of PhP 67.5 billion.

The main contributors to the 2021 GCDP growth of the city were: Manufacturing with 1.5 percentage points, Accommodation and food service activities with 0.8 percentage point, and Construction with 0.6 percentage point contribution. Among the major economic industries, Industry had the largest share to the economy of the city, accounting to 49.6 percent. This was closely followed by Services with a share of 48.6 percent, while Agriculture, forestry and fishing had a share of 1.9 percent.

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) established through Republic Act No. 10625 or The Philippine Statistical Act of 2013, is tasked, among others, to compile and maintain macroeconomic accounts and indicators, at the national and subnational level. At the provincial level, the Provincial Product Accounts (PPA) is a mechanism to measure the economic performance of the province or highly urbanized cities (HUCs) at a given time.

Starting last year, the PSA annually releases the provincial and HUC level economic performances following the identified pilot provinces and HUCs. City of Iligan is one of the pilot areas for PPA compilation starting 2021.
