The CPI in Misamis Occidental for the month of April 2023 dropped at 121.9 from 123.4 in the month of March 2023. A CPI of 121.9 implies that the same basket of goods and services worth 100 pesos in 2018 had increased by 21.9 percent in April 2023. In comparison to the CPI recorded in the months of March and April 2022, it increased from 114.7 and 115.5 to 123.4 and 121.9 in March and April 2023, respectively. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) is an indicator of the change in the average retail prices of a fixed basket of goods and services commonly purchased by households relative to a base year.

Among the commodity groups, Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco posted the highest CPI in April 2023 at 164.9, followed by Financial Services at 146.0, and Restaurant and Accommodation Services at 134.4. On the other hand, Information and Communication at 111.4, Education Services at 105.1 and Recreation, Sport, and Culture at 104.0 were the bottom three commodity groups with the lowest CPI recorded in the month of April 2023.

April Inflation Rate (IR) in the Province Slows to 5.5 percent
Provincial inflation in April 2023 dropped to 5.5 percent -- that is 2.1 percentage points decrease from 7.6 percent in March 2023. This has been the largest deceleration from a previous month since 2019. However, it is still higher by 0.2 percentage points compared to the inflation rate recorded in April 2022 at 5.3 percent.

Purchasing Power of Peso (PPP)
The Purchasing Power of Peso (PPP) shows the real value of peso relative to the base period. The PPP in Misamis Occidental in April 2023 increased to 82 centavos from 81 centavos in the previous month. However, it is lower by 5 centavos compared to 87 centavos last April 2022. A PPP of 82 centavos means that a consumer’s PhP100.00 in 2018 can only purchase PhP82.00 worth of goods and services in April 2023.
