Misamis Oriental

The inflation rate of Province of Misamis Oriental is at 7.2 percent for the month of September 2022. Compared to the same month in year 2021, year-on-year inflation has more than doubled, and a percent change of 14.29 percent in the previous month was observed in the province’s inflation rate. (Table A and Figure 1)

Inflation rate by commodity group for all income household of the province was shown in the table below (Table B). The highest inflation rate of commodity that affected the province’s inflation rate in September 2022 was Transport with 13.6 percent, followed by Food and Non-alcoholic beverages with 8.1 percent, then Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels at 7.6 percent. Other commodities such as Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco; Personal Care, And Miscellaneous Goods and Services; Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routine Household Maintenance; and Health also contributed to the province’s inflation rate with 5.4 percent, 5.2 percent, 4.7 percent and 4.0 percent respectively.

Meanwhile, compared to previous month’s inflation rate, indices for Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels and Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routine Household Maintenance decreased with percent changes of -14.12 percent and -17.4 percent respectively. The Financial Services and Educational commodity group showed a non-movement on its inflation rate. (Table B)

Cagayan de Oro City

Cagayan de Oro City, a highly urbanized city of the province recorded its highest inflation rate of the year at 7.2 percent on September 2022 garnering a percent change of 18.46 percent compared to the previous month. On the other hand, an increase in the year-on-year inflation was more than doubled. (Table A and Figure 2)

The increase of the inflation was primarily influenced by three commodity groups which have higher annual increase in the index namely; Education Services at 2.6 percent compared to 0.4 percent on the previous month with 2.2 percentage point; Information And Communication at 0.3 percent with 0.2 percentage point and Restaurants and Accommodation Services at 9.8 percent with equivalent 4.5 percentage point compared to the previous month.

However, annual increase slowed down in the indices of Clothing and Footwear at 2.1 percent; Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routine Household Maintenance at 5.9 percent; Clothing And Footwear at 2.9 percent; Recreation, Sport and Culture at 1.5 percent; And Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routine Household Maintenance at 4.9 percent; The Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco and Financial Services commodity group retained it’s previous month’s inflation rate.
