The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to facilitate the registration of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys). The MOA aims to ensure that OFWs have access to the national ID system, which will serve as a valid proof of identity and a platform for digital transactions. The MOA also outlines the roles and responsibilities of both agencies in the implementation of PhilSys, such as data collection, verification, and issuance of PhilID cards.
On August 30, 2023, the PSA Region X - OIC Regional Director Janith C. Aves, Registration Officer IV Jose B. Tuason, Jr., and Registration Officer III Joy E. Llido coordinated with DMW Region X - OIC Regional Director Atty. Fidel A. Macauyag covering the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), and other relevant agencies to reach out to OFWs and inform them of the benefits and procedures of PhilSys Registration. To make it easier and faster for OFWs to access various essential services, the PSA and the DMW have set up a registration booth at the DMW Office:GF, Trininidad Bldg., Yacapin St., Cagayan de Oro City. This booth will be open from September 1, 2023 and will serve OFW applicants who need to register with PhilSys.
The partnership aims to leverage the existing network and infrastructure of the DMW to provide convenient and accessible venues for PhilSys applicants. The PSA and the DMW hope that this partnership will help achieve the goal of providing a valid proof of identity for all Filipinos, especially those who are marginalized and underserved.
The PSA also urged those who have not yet registered or received their ePhilID to do so as soon as possible as we are aiming to complete the registration by December 2023.
