Corn Production in Bukidnon increased by 3.15 percent.

The Province of Bukidnon put up the highest share in terms of total corn production with 254,423.00 metric tons (MT), or 78.03 percent share of the total corn production of Northern Mindanao. Lanao del Norte followed with 49,503.00 MT or 15.18 percent share, then by Misamis Oriental at 16,447.20 MT or 5.04 percent share, Misamis Occidental at 5,673.50 MT or 1.74 percent share and lastly by Camiguin at 30.89 MT or 0.01 percent share (Figure 1 & 2).

Corn production in Bukidnon increased to 254,423.00 metric tons (MT) during the first quarter of 2025, up from 246,658.00 MT in the same quarter of the previous year, reflecting a 3.15 percent growth. This marks the highest growth rate among the provinces in Northern Mindanao, with Lanao del Norte following at 2.38 percent. In contrast, the remaining provinces registered a decline in corn production, with Misamis Oriental recording the largest drop at 44.95 percent, followed by Camiguin at 31.83 percent and Misamis Occidental at 14.86 percent (Table 1).

Yellow corn remains to be the biggest contributor in corn production at 90.21 percent share, with white corn contributing by 9.79 percent. (Figure 3).

Both yellow and white corn increased in production in the province of Bukidnon in the first quarter of 2025. Yellow corn increased to 229,518.00 metric tons (MT) from 224,259.00 metric tons last year in the same quarter, or a 2.35 percent growth while white corn production increased to 24,905.00 metric tons from 22,399.00 metric tons in the first quarter last year or 11.19 percent increase (Table 2).

TECHNICAL NOTES

Estimates of volume of corn production are generated from the Quarterly Corn Production Survey (CPS) of which there are four survey rounds in a year, that is, January, April, July, and October.

The objective of the survey is to generate estimates on corn production. The purpose of this survey is to provide statistical data as reference for research and statistical purpose of stakeholders.

DEFINITION OF TERMS

Crop Production - refers to the quantity produced and actually harvested for a particular crop during the reference period. It includes those harvested but damaged, stolen, given away, consumed, given as harvester’s share, reserved, etc. It excludes those produced but not harvested due to low price, lack of demand, force majeure, or fortuitous events, etc.

White corn – used primarily for human consumption.

Yellow corn – used generally as feed grains. It includes all types of corn other than white.
