Corn Production in Bukidnon increased by 4.1 percent.
The Province of Bukidnon put up the highest share in terms of total corn production with 302,405.91 metric tons (MT), or 58.8 percent share of the total corn production of Northern Mindanao. Lanao del Norte followed with 142,151.10 MT or 27.6 percent share, then by Misamis Oriental at 50,484.00 MT or 9.8% share, Misamis Occidental at 19,208.00 MT or 3.7% share and lastly by Camiguin at 226.68 MT or 0.04% share (Figure 1 & 2).
The corn production in Bukidnon recorded an increase, with 302,405.91 MT during the third quarter in 2022 as compared to 290,599.00 MT in the same quarter during the previous year or with a 4.1 percent increase. This increase is the highest growth rate within Northern Mindanao provinces.Misamis Oriental having the second highest growth rate at 2.1 percent increase and Camiguin at 0.8 percent increase. Meanwhile, the provinces of Misamis Occidental and Lanao del Norte recorded a decrease in their corn production at -15.4 percent and -3.6 percent decrease, respectively.
Yellow corn remains to be the biggest contributor in corn production at 75.9 percent share, with white corn contributing by 24.1 percent.
Likewise, both Yellow corn and White corn increased in production in the province of Bukidnon in the third quarter of 2022 as compared with the same quarter last year. Yellow corn increased to 229,601.50 metric tons from 219,479.00 metric tons last year in the same quarter, or a 4.61 percent growth. White corn production also increased to 72,804.41 metric tons from 71,120.00 metric tons in the third quarter last year or 2.37 percent growth.
TECHNICAL NOTES
Estimates of volume of corn production are generated from the Quarterly Corn Production Survey (CPS) of which there are four survey rounds in a year, that is, January, April, July, and October.
The objective of the survey is to generate estimates on corn production. The purpose of this survey is to provide statistical data as reference for research and statistical purpose of stakeholders.
DEFINITION OF TERMS
Crop Production - refers to the quantity produced and actually harvested for a particular crop during the reference period. It includes those harvested but damaged, stolen, given away, consumed, given as harvester’s share, reserved, etc. It excludes those produced but not harvested due to low price, lack of demand, force majeure, or fortuitous events, etc.
White corn – used primarily for human consumption.
Yellow corn – used generally as feed grains. It includes all types of corn other than white.
