The volume of fisheries production in Northern Mindanao reached 153,264 metric tons in 2019 which represents 0.5 percent growth from the 2018 fisheries production of 152,484 metric tons. Among the provinces, Bukidnon,Camiguin, and Lanaodel Norte posted productiongrowthsof10.9 percent, 1.7 percent and 4.1 percent, respectively. On the other hand, fishproduction of Misamis Occidental and Misamis Oriental contracted by 3.0 percent and 6.8 percent, respectively. (Table A)

By subsector

Among the three subsectors, aquaculture topped the fisheries production in 2019 which accounted for 48.7 percent of the total fisheries production in the region. The subsector’s volume of production grew by 2.1 percent in 2019.(Table A and Figure 1)

Municipal fisheries (29.5%) ranked second in terms of total fisheries production, with 1.1 percent growth rate in 2019. Municipal fisheries production consists of marine fisheries (89.6%) and inland fisheries (10.4%).

On the other hand, commercial fisheries (21.8%) ranked last in terms of total fisheries production. It is the only subsector that recorded a drop in the volume of production (3.7%).

Among the five provinces in Northern Mindanao, Lanao del Norte posted the highest aquaculture fisheries production (55,343 metric tons) which accounted for almost
three-fourths (74.2%) of the region’s total aquaculture production in 2019. This was followed by

Misamis Occidental at 16,540 metric tons (22.2%) and Misamis Oriental (2,168 metric tons or 2.9%).(Figure 2 and Table 1)

In terms of commercial fisheries production in 2019,Misamis Occidental (38.5%) posted the highest production followed byLanao del Norte (34.4%)andMisamis Oriental (26.2%). Note that Bukidnon had no recorded production for commercial fisheries since there were no commercial fishing operations existing in the province.(Table 1)

Among the five provinces, Misamis Occidental posted the highest production in terms of municipal fisheries in 2019. The province recorded a production of16,867 metric tons, equivalent to 37.3 percent of the total fisheries production in the region. Lanao del Norte and Misamis Oriental followed which accounted for 31.5 percent and 18.3 percent of the total municipal fisheries production, respectively.(Figure 4 and Table 1)
