A. Bukidnon
1. Headline Inflation
The headline inflation in the province or overall inflation recorded an annual decreased to 0.7 percent in April 2025 from its annual increase of 0.4 percent in March 2025. This brings the provincial average inflation from January to April 2025 to 0.6 percent. In April 2024, the inflation rate was higher at 5.5 percent. (Figure 1, and Tables A, B, and 3)
1.1 Main Drivers to the Downward Trend of the Headline Inflation
The downtrend in the overall inflation in April 2025 was primarily brought about by the annual decline of food and non-alcoholic beverages at 2.0 percent in April 2025 from its annual increase at 0.7 percent in the previous month. Also contributing to the downtrend with a slower annual increase were transport with 0.4 percent during the month from 3.5 percent in March 2025, and clothing and footwear from 1.9 percent in April 2025 from 2.2 percent in the previous month.
Moreover, lower annual increment was noted In the indices of health at 5.0 percent in April 2025 from 5.2 in the previous month.
On the contrary, higher inflation rates during the month were noted in the indices of the following commodity groups:
a. Alcoholic beverages and tobacco, 1.8 percent from 1.5 percent;
b. Restaurants and accommodation services, 2.9 percent from 1.8 percent; and
c.Personal care, and miscellaneous goods and services, 2.2 percent from 1.6 percent.
In addition, slower annual decreases in the indices of housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels with an annual decrease of 2.4 percent during the month from an annual decline of 4.7 percent in the previous month and recreation, sport and culture with 0.6 percent during the month from an annual decline of 1.0 percent in March 2025
Moreover, Information and communication had a year-on-year increase of 0.3 percent in March 2025 from a 0.1 percent annual decline in the previous month.
The indices of the rest of the commodity groups retained their respective previous month’s annual rates. (Tables 3, and 4)
1.1 Main Contributors to the Headline Inflation
The top three commodity groups contributing to the April 2025 overall inflation were the following:
a. Food and non-alcoholic beverages with 5 percent share or -0.94 percentage point; and
b. Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels with 1 percent share or -0.43 percentage point; and
c. Recreation, sport and culture with 0.7 percent share or 0.00 percentage point.
2. Food Inflation
Food inflation in the provincial level with annual decrease of 2.1 percent in April 2025 from its annual increase of 0.6 percent in the previous month. In April 2024, food inflation was higher at 9.7 percent. (Table 7)
2.1 Main Drivers to the Downward Trend of Food Inflation
The deceleration of food inflation in April 2025 was mainly brought about by the faster year-on-year decrease in the cereals and cereal products specifically rice with an index recorded at 21.4 percent during the month from a 10.7 percent annual drop in March 2025. Also contributing to the downtrend of inflation were the slower annual increments of corn index recorded at 6.7 percent during the month from 8.7 percent in March 2025, and fish and other seafood at 1.9 percent during the month from 3.2 percent in March 2025.
Moreover, slower annual increment was observed in the indices of milk, other dairy products and eggs with 1.7 percent in April 2025 from 2.9 percent in March 2025.
In addition, faster annual declines were observed in the indices of the ready-made food and other food products not elsewhere classified with 2.4 percent during the month from 0.9 percent annual decline in the previous month and oils and fats with 1.4 percent during the month from 0.2 percent annual decline in March 2025.
Furthermore, sugar, confectionery and desserts index recorded at 2.2 percent annual decrement during the month from an annual increment of 1.2 percent in March 2025.
On the contrary, faster annual growth rates during the month were observed in the indices of the following food groups:
a. Meat and other parts of slaughtered land animals, 9.8 percent from 7.6 percent;
b. Fruits and nuts, 18.1 percent from 12.2 percent; and
c. Vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas and pulses, 8.2 percent from 4.3 percent.
In addition, slower annual decrease was noted in the indices of flour, bread and other bakery products, pasta products, and other cereals at 1.7 percent in April 2025 from 2.1 percent in the March 2025. (Table 5)
2.2 Main Contributors to the Food Inflation
Food inflation shared 139.4 percent or -0.98 percentage point to the overall inflation in April 2025. The top three food groups in terms of contribution to food inflation during the month were the following:
a. Cereals and cereal products, which includes rice, corn, flour, bread and other bakery products, pasta products, and other cereals, with a share of 246.7 percent or -5.18 percentage points;
b. Ready-made food and other food products not elsewhere classified with a share of 4.4 percent or -0.09 percentage points; and
c. Sugar, confectionery and desserts with a share of 3.1 percent or 0.06 percentage points.
